I mean is IPL that much bad for cricket? Is it really second rated as some users say? I am not a great fan of IPL and honestly, I won’t mind if it gets scrapped but I believe that it is a good platform for thw youngsters to show and hone their talent. Sir Jadeja emerged out from the IPL and see what happened? Australia suffered the most humiliating defeat in 43 years. There are many such players who have benefitted from the IPL, the latest being Michael Hussey. Now, he’s free to play IPL and other T20 leagues all over the world without worrying he should get back to national duties in the middle of such leagues. Moreover, he can take his family with him anywhere he wants for what he retired, ACTUALLY. Ok, let’s not get into whosoever benefitted. The end point is that the players have benefitted and so have the boards, CRICKETWISE.
My point is why do the users always bash the IPL and call it a second rated league while we have great bowlers and batsmen from all over the world except from England? Have a look at all teh answers here, especially Dinith’s answer in this question,

Personally, how do you rate IPL? Unbiased answers please.

Now you have completely misunderstood what I wrote there. Keep in mind that my answer was basically a reaction to CJ who called Jayasuriya as overrated. Some times we get frustrated when ppl call thing pretty unfairly and we may get outta control. See how TJ bashing Sri Lanka here as a reaction to Nalaka's unfairly(from Indian POV) remark...

https://answersrip.com/question/index?qid=20130402103459AAWFgM7

So should I come and ask a question targeting TJ for taking a shot at Chandimal and SL? No I didn't bcz I know very well that his answer was just a "reaction" to Nalaka who has been taking shots at India since a long time now. We all know that.

So in my answer I did the same. The only difference was that i didn't make any apology to Indian friends and I thought it was not necessary bcz no other major Indian user answered that question.

Once again understand that I was talking about Gayle and Jayasuriya comparison there. And IPL is not real competitition like internationals cricket. That's why I called it second rated. We all know that IPL is for entertainment and it's far away from real competition we see in international cricket.

Yes the world's best players playing there but still every team contains lot of Indian first class/ domestic players. So as any other domestic tournament.

It's not hate or jealousy or anything. Just like you can't stand me criticizing IPL (to prove my point about Sana vs Gayle comparison in that Q) I also couldn't stand CJ, the Indian user bashing Jayasuriya and calling Gayle is far better than him based on Gayle's Ipl performance. Why can't you see it in that way...?

I am indeed unbiased and I will stay unbiased, no matter what. Once again I'm saying My answer in your link was just a "reaction". It's not an anti Indian/ anti IPL statement...

Ok I want one more thing to say about IPL. I know that you are wondering why do many non Indians criticize IPl. Now take it this way.

Imagine that there is no tournament call IPL. Instead the Big Bash in Australia holds the same position of IPL and say that it is the world's most richest and popular domestic T20 league. So the Indian players go to play there for money and BCCI also act spineless by allowing their players go and play there cancelling all the international matches for India in that period. So then as an Indian fan wouldn't you have criticized Big Bash for destroying Indian cricket and making Indian players greedy for money? Tell me your honest feelings... I know you'd surely do that! So the same goes here with non Indian fans regarding IPL! The reality is IPL has done more negatives than positives for other countries...

If there is something effecting in negative way for our country's cricket(be it IPL of anything else) we should make our honest thoughts on that. That's what I exactly did and i have all the rights to do so. Of course anyone one does...

IPL is not only cricket but a mixture of glamor, cricket, money and controversies. We have seen many controversies in the IPL which makes it the most controversial T20 league ever.I don't agree with the things which you mentioned because there was a fact which you didn't mention that India faced 2 humiliating defeats against England and Australia and that too in consecutive series. And then India lost to Pakistan and England at home.So I should say that IPL is making Indian cricket worse. Most of the people said that the defeats were due to a new coach but many teams have won in recent years with new coaches. So i don't think that IPL is benefiting youngsters but it is destroying their careers. For the second part of the question,I must say that there have been too much controversies and some players got banned. One of the recent examples is the rape of a foreigner by Luke Pomersbach.

I don't have a problem with the IPL or T20 cricket because I accept the fact that is a dumbed down version of cricket for the masses. I haven't watched a complete IPL match so far and am not really interested in it. The same goes for the English T20 league, not only IPL (or Big Bash), I just don't find it interesting. T20 was created as a filler for the English summer evenings but it has gone overboard.

Selecting players for a Test side because they have performed well in a T20 league is moronic. Let's see how well Sir Jadeja does in SA before we start praising a talent found in the IPL. Saying that, I don't mind players lining their pockets with Indian sponsors cash, cricket players should have the opportunity to make money like any other sports stars. I can hardly bring myself to come to this section when the IPL is on but that is just a personal preference I guess.

To be honest I don't dislike IPL because it provides a second lease of life to retired cricketers and helps our youngsters to learn from some of the greats of the game. The problem lies with the cricketers who currently play international cricket constantly and are also present in the IPL.If a Club vs Country question arises I would support Country first and then any T20 tournaments. Some players get injured during international season mainly because of IPL when they could've skipped but money plays its part in forcing them play. It's not good for international Cricket this just doesn't happen with foreign players but also our own.I enjoy watching IPL for the pure fun of it but unfortunately the league has also created some negativity that should be sorted out.

The IPL has set a foul priority, if for some cause India have a falling out with a different nation ( let's imagine England ) & do not need their gamers within the league, Australia maybe take offence which in flip would follow on to NZ, in case you have three or four countries now not trying the play of their comp...... Do they then flip again to the Paki's for support ??? I can see the IPL being India gamers handiest inside 3 years.

It isn't a second rated league but it is only a local domestic competition. Ideally, T20 should go the way of rugby 7s. That is players make their choice between playing Sevens or plying 15 man rugby. This set up works well. There is a minimum of 10 World Series Rugby 7s played in such disparate places as Dubail, Hong Kong and Japan as well as normal rugby countries. This allows the players to compete and get well paid for this. The same setup would work well for T20.

It has become a trend to say, “Oh, we don’t like IPl; we are of pure blood, and hence the only cricket dat matters is Test” so on and on…..What these so called puritans have failed to see is dat sports all over d world has changed …sticking wid India & IPL, India is a cricket devoted country…..from children to adults, male or female, ordinary to famous, almost every Indian love to watch cricket…..IPL has played a huge part in popularizing d game in d country….This cricket tournament is not representing any nation rather it is played almost like club tournaments, giving ample opportunities to fringe players from different nations to showcase their talents….IPL is a cuff of different cultures and values…… definitely globalization of mixed culture which helps to value one another’s country and their culture…..what else is d message of dis great game????..On a local level, new & young players of India are getting well connected to the other parts of the country….IPL gives good money to players thereby motivating many kids to take up cricket as a profession…..well, I can go and on, but I know it won’t matter..those who are jealous will continue to smear it…..

Edit: some error..d message is not going through..will reply later.....

That would be correct. I really don't care for a flashy and trashy private domestic competition that is destroying the basic tenets, craft and skill that underpin the game.

Well, IPL isn't an imported item from Jupiter. If there are any flaws with Indian Premier League, those flaws lies in each other league. For me Indian Premier League is most important sort of cricket after Indian International Cricket.

No matter how talented a cricket-nation is, at a single point of time only 11 players play in a single team. On average 25 players in 10 years. In a cricket crazy heavily populated country like India, 25 players are very small amount of pool of players who want to play cricket as career. So what they should do? Don't they have right to earn the bread for their family? A cricketer like Dinesh Kartik may be is not as good as Virat Kohli but it doesn't mean he don't works harder OR he shouldn't get chance to earn money? International Cricket cant embrace every cricketer and thats truth. We would be called selfish if criticize domestic leagues by putting the arguments that its just money game. Everyone wants to earn money, for himself, and for his relations, and thats not illegal, they aren't stealing from anyone. And how many of us think about cricketers who loses the place in team just because someone else is marginally better? The thing "Marginally Better" can be a difference between a millionaire cricketer and a unknown cricketer in some cases. And what about retired cricketers for any reasons? And Its not about only playing cricketers- Support staffs, Coaches, Commentators, spokesmen everyone gets his fair chance of employment. Isn't?

Great words of wisdom form Sanjay Manjrekar, "There are many who are incapable of developing other skills, and feel completely lost in the world outside cricket. It's a horrible feeling when the cricketer starts to realise that the skills he acquired with great effort over the years, the skills he was so proud of and which people paid good money to watch, are slowly beginning to desert him with age. And then that day comes when it dawns on him that the world has no use for him anymore. I guess that is a fact of life that hits everyone at some point of their lives, but cricketers are less prepared for it than most. For a man who has largely lived an uncommon life, it's not easy to merge into the common world. This situation is frightening, to say the least, and there are numerous cricketers who are trying to make a go of it. I meet such players quite often, and it distresses me to see that many are not doing a great job. The IPL is a boon for such cricketers, who find life after cricket tough. Increasingly players from countries like Sri Lanka, West Indies and New Zealand will face such questions, and it is unfair on them as individuals. The other advantage of the IPL is that you don't have to be a truly extraordinary player to make the big bucks. If you have decent Twenty20 skills, and the franchisee feels you are well-behaved and not going to give them too much trouble, your life is made."

Controversies are everywhere, whether its IPL, Bigbash, Football, Golf, Hollywood and even in International cricket but it cant overrun the positives of above all arenas. Flaws are everywhere, improvement is mandatory. One more thing is a single incident where a player lost his cool cant be a drawback of whole tournament in my opinion.

Its reality that every person who starts playing cricket professionally cant be Kohli & Pujara mate. Tons of unheard cricketers come play and retire from domestic cricket but none cares about them, we all know that how many of us follow the scorecards of matches of Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy, NKP Salve Challenger Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, BCCI Corporate Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

That was my point of view from a cricketer. Now If I talk as fan, then I love IPL and I don't hesitate in saying that, I don't care who will think what, Loving IPL doesn't make a cricket fan "impure". Loving IPL doesn't mean I don't like test cricket. Human loves sports because of entertainment part, IPL gives me fair amount of entertainment, so fair enough. Im not crazy about IPL, but Im not crazy about cricket either.

Edit: We shouldn't judge the opinions regarding IPL from one particular question The comments there from Sri Lankan users are heavily influenced by one insane guy's post. That guy was born with one mission- Divide & Rule.

Edit: Mate, I know the deep logics of yours to unroot the negative thoughts of section from the root level !! I had thought that we have to take care of other average users (who are in majority) too, who may get wrong idea at first glance. Thats why I inserted the reason that why Dinith said so. That wasn't for you. That was for others. Thats why I typed "We shouldn't judge" instead of "you shouldn't judge". Hope, you got it mate :)
