(1)How did india defeated SL in this tour?
(2) Why has SL been struggling against india continuously in recent ¾ years at their home, away and neutral venues (mostly in ODIs)?
(3)Is this win something huge for india or not?
Here are my opinions…
(1) First of all it’s obvious that India played brilliantly. In batting they looked superb and apart from one occasion they completely dominated with that bat. As always, India’s bowling was not the greatest but still enough to back up their batting. I thought their bowlers esp. pace men did a solid job. The fielding was pretty good too. Overall Indians were not sloppy. They did the basics right, played according to a plan and gave their 100% in every aspect. Almost every player gave their level best.
Apart from that, clearly SL didn’t play up to their 100% potential and ability. They tried hard in the first 4 games but due to some basic mistakes especially in the field, just couldn’t finish it up. In the final match and in the T20, SL played like a bunch of newcomers with no plan or any confidence. Probably the losing mindset caused this. SL could have won the 5th match where one stage they needed less than runner ball with 4 wickets in hand in last 50 balls. But SL batsman played some unnecessary shots and gave it away. In the T20 they had another great opportunity as they just needed 150 to win, but once again some terrible mistakes cost it. It's really annoying to see they giving it away. Indians simply counter attacked and got the upper hand easily.
(2) Here are the reasons.
#SL didn’t have any bowler who can wear and strangle the Indian batsmen down. In the past, Vass and Murali did a decent job though Indians handled them well at times. But now their best bowlers like malinga, Herath and Mendis looks completely ineffective against india.
#Current Indian batting lineup is probably the strongest India ever had(in ODIs) They react brilliantly to the pressure.
#SL don’t have a dominant player like Jayasuriya to match up Indian aggressive batsmen. Dilshan falls short.
(3) In my honest opinion this is a good win but not a historical win for India because India has dominated SL most occasions in recent years. India has defeated SL 5 out of last 6 times they played in SL. So what they did was continuing their dominance. Nothing new here. Actually SL doesn’t look like a dominant force any more as they used to be at home in ODIs. SL lost to Australia and England at home in Odis (2011 & 2008). SL has only defeated Wi and Pak in ODIs at home recently in one on one competition. And overall SL team only defeated Pakistan after the last world cup. So current SL team is pretty average or just above average… no more a very dominant force. India should win against much tougher oppositions in order to climb to the top.
India is the best team in Asia right now. Now it's time for them to go for the next level.
So then What are your opinions?
