Question:
Am I watching SLPL or IPL lol?

I just cannot believe that SLPL has some features which are carbon copies of IPL! Now I know the main concept is same as IPL, so as BPL or BBL. I get it. No issue there. But you would find the following features are unbelievably making SLPL another version of IPL! The funny thing is that there is no single Indian player playing in SLPL. There is not a single Indian commentator in SLPL and frankly SLPL is not even telecasted in India. But….

(1) SLPL has a STRATEGIC TIME OUT like IPL.
STRATEGIC TIME OUT means another name to the drinks break, doesn’t it? But why it has the same name as IPL? I don’t know whether BPL and BBL have the same?

(2) We have bunch of white girls/cheerleaders dancing in SLPL, same as IPL?
Oh please. I have never been a fan of those dancing girls, neither in IPL, T20 W.Cup or here SLPL. I mean they are not even good at dancing. They one hundred percent completely sucks! Oh come on! You can find much better dancers from southern beach lol!
Again, what’s the point of carbon copying IPL? There are many talented female local dancers you can use for this purpose. I mean they will appease the SL fans. They will appeal to the local fans better that those white sluts(pun intended).

(3) We have Indian female presenters/ interviewers including Mandira Bedi?
No much problem with others, but Mandira Bedi? Seriously mates? Mandira has been refused even by her own counrty’s fans. She sucks at acting and even more sucks at presenter’s role. She should stop showing up in cricketing events. Oh please can we have a cricketing event where Madira shows up and choke us! I don’t wanna see her in my TV ever again.
Once again why Bedi, why Indian presenters? If IPL is telecasted in India then it’s ok as it’ll appeal to the Indian fans and more of them will start watching it. But do they appeal to the Lankan fans? Anarkali Akarsha or any Lankan presenters would be a better choice.

And last but the funniest part! Yesterday I tuned in looking for SLPL but no matches were held. Once I thought, “oh is today an off day of SLPL?”. But how could be? SLPL has just started 3-4 days ago so what’s the point of having an off day at this point. Finally I found out that yesterday was India’s Independent day! So no games being held!!!

₪■₪■₪■₪■₪■₪■₪■₪■₪■₪■₪

Seriously how stupid is this? No single Indian player plays in SLPL. No single Indian commentator is in SLPL. This is not telecasted directly in India so only few Indian fans are watching it, through paid channels or internet, whatever. But we have no matches in SLPL due to India’s independent day!

I know all the sponsors and franchises are Indians. But if they really want to make most money of this, then they should make the SL fans buying in to this. If the Indian players are playing here and if this has a huge popularity in India then it’s ok. But this has not much popularity in India so no point of appealing in to Indian fans. Why can’t they make this with more Sri Lankan touch rather that another typical Indian cricketing event? If they do, then more and more SL fans will buy in to this and make their investment worthy. Then they’ll make more money outta this. But with currently what they do by having too much Indian flavor on it, it’s pointless.

No disrespect to IPL or SLPL. I am a fan of IPL and I still like SLPL so much but it should have been better if it has more Lankan touch coz the major fan base of it's are Sri lankans. So what are your thoughts on my edgy question?

Before reading your Q i had lot of answer for your heading but after reading the whole Q,i couldn't agree more!

Even though SLPL doesn't feature any Indian players or commentators, the target audians are Indians,Pakisthanis and Bangladeshis.Sri Lanka is not a market worth mentioning comparing with them in cricket.

1)

I think it's due to attract more time for TV advertisement.I saw CSN using it with lot of advertisement. But using the same name as IPL isn't a problem for. It's English.Universal language. We can use what ever we want.

2)

That is stupid. But after all it's Indian businessmen mentality. We can't use traditional SL dancers and they should have use SL girls.Atleast that will attract some local guys to stadiums.

3)

Media activities are handled by SEV,and Star Cricket broadcasting it in India. So i don't see any problem using Indian presenters.

However she's not Mandira Bedi. Some one else.

I think it's a good move to have free days in the middle of the week.Crowd not so good even at weekend and no need to talk about weekdays.

Next week also they have free days in the middle of the week.

Dinith you have also changed your avatar, has this got anything to do with your protest today?? :D

Best bit is, there were no matches yesterday, why, due to India's Independence day. Now you need Independence from India's Independence day too mate !!

Rest IPL is supposed to be borrowed from now defunct ICL league & American Football League, so there is nothing original about IPL & its bits.

Yes, about Mandira Bedi, she is annoying, to say the least & she has long been forgotten in IPL, now its cool Shibani Dhandekar & Archana Vijay, whom I don't like too much.

Dinith you should try to enjoy the matches, instead of looking at these distractions.

SLPL is being telecast live in India, I have seen it and liked the total look of that. It has good mix of international players & good Pakistani T-20 players, who would walk into IPL on merit.

Have fun bro, I was joking about above points up there, so don't mind pl..

1) We can call this "Upayathmaka kala viramaya".. Never been a fan of this little brake thing..

2) Yes.. People who go to watch these matches can take a little brake and watch some porno when the team they support dont do well.. Same as we turn of the TV and watch one..

And yes.. They may be actually hôs.. They cant dance..

You dont need cheergirls in any sport..

Good for horny old guys who dont own pornos tho..

3) Yes.. No offence Indians but too much Indian dîkc riding going on in Sri Lanka..

I dont think cricket matches stop in India on Sri Lankan independant day or Sinhala/Hindu new year or Wesak poya day..

I mean how you describe these things.. Humility?? Generosity?? Respect??

This is a naive plan to get the attention of Indian government.. And they wont buy it..

Japanese people are the people who are truly humble and they respect others for real.. But they aint naive..

Sri Lanka will learn someday..

Yeah you are totally wright with the cheer leaders. I think the officials of SLPL had bought them because most of the traditional Kandyan & Lowcountry dancers refuse to take the 'cheerleading' roll. According to our customs & traditions it is somewhat an insult for them. But they could have had some Sri Lankan dancers (not the traditional ones)

Mandira Bedi acted in some Sri Lankan dramas, but I don't think that Sri Lankans are her fans. So, the officials might be thinking that we are close to her and we would like to see her comment. But we hate her.

Indeed an edgy question there Dinith. I love the way you put up things. I wanted to answer your question yesterday itself but only got time to star your question. So, the first thing I did today was to open my laptop and answer your question.

1) Strategic timeout is indeed for strategic purpose. We have players all over from the world and the captain needs to take advice from them time to time. Its really difficult to manage the players from different countries with different mindsets. That's where MSD is good at.

2) I agree with you that the cheergirls must be the local girls. They can appeal the crowd more rather than the foreigners. yes, they can't dance but are they really there for dancing? :-)

3) SLPL is being telecasted in India by Star Sports. Its not that Indians are not interested in SLPL. In fact, Indian kids watch everything that's related to T20. I reckon SLPL has more Indian TV audience than the Sri Lankans. That's the reason why Mandira is there but I too hate her. I've never liked her in fact.

No games due to India's Independence day? Now, that's illogical. I don't believe that.

You may know this or may not know this. Here in Sri Lanka people are mad at Hindi Cinema. They even understand Hindi well.(Even I can understand Hindi)So it's not a bad move Mandira Bedi or whatever.I didn't watch IPL first two editions as so as lots of Srilankans I beleive.Even IPL second and third editions wasn't telecasted here as I remember. So people here don't know that girl but I beleive they can be saticefied more by using Indian presentators than lame Sri lankan presentators(As Mandira amongst Indian fans, people like Anarkali and more presentators have destroyed there own image here in Srilanka too. Also I don't think they can find Sri lankan presentators who have little bit of knowledge about cricket).Hence I don't think Mandira is a bad move.

Second thing tournement's main aim is not Srilankan fans. You can see there are not enough fans even to fill the grounds.Main aim is TV fans, especially pakistan and Bangladesh fans.Eventhough slpl is not telecasted in India ,I think they can find more indian fans than whole Srilanka fans.

Population in Srilanka: 20M Pakistan:176M Bangaladesh:150M India:1000M

People think strategic time out is only for Ads.But most of the games like Basketball,Volleyball Badminton etc are used it.(Not in the name of Stategic time out but as time out). These time out's can be used for greater effect. Most of the teams in slpl have inexperienced captains. So they can have the views of the foreign players and coaches in that time.So it's not basically a drink break.Hence the name strategic time out.

A two day brake is mainly because teams move to Kandy from Colombo. It also gains more spectator anticipation in Kandy. This tournement doesn't have many matches as in Ipl.So break is important to increase the tournement duration to three weeks.

Finally I think it's more suitable to make the tournement as IPL than doing costly innovations. The only difference I see in Slpl is those dancing girls cover their body more than in IPl.Because it can make problems here in SriLanka than any other thing. But those girls specially in slpl are suck as you said.

I dont think the break is becasue of India`s independence day

coz there were no matches yesterday as well as today

How ever that is an unneccesary brake..That time out thing is annoying..I don`t think its fair to call these dancing girls `sluts` ,lol but poor girls finding cheap ways to make money..I feel sorry for them

Anyway they do not suit SLn way of supporting..We have our unique way and cheerleaders are good for IPL

As u pointed out there are many areas that we need to adjust..But this tournament is great for our young players..hope they will make adjustments and improve in future..lets look at the bright side too ~
