Question:
What should be India's batting order in this test series ? What do you think about this plan ?

Well i think there is a need to change the batting order of our team. I am not happy with the present batting order.

Some brave decisions need to be made for the benefit of the team.
I am a positive person & i have this new plan. It's innovative , i think it will work in Australia.
Sachin should be asked to open with Sehwag. Leave Jaffer out if he fails in next inning.
I know Jaffer is a talented player but he does not fit into my plan. I think he will struggle in Australia.

Ok, Sachin - Sehwag should open, Saurav or Yuvraj should come at 4.

*** Note - I am going to put Dravid in lower middle order.
He is too defensive & just breaks the momentum. So i8 don't want him at the top.

*** Note - As i have said earlier, this a risk. This line-up is totally different from our present line-up.
I am completely changing our batting order .
We need to think positively & should do what the situation demands.
Sachin & Ganguly are in good form . Sop they should take care of the damn new ball

Hi, dude great Question. When the whole of BCCI has got corrupted, this is the time to join hands and we can decide on a good alternative as to what can be the possible batting line up for the 2nd Test match against Australia.

First of all Kumble was right in saying that " ... batsmen were responsible" for the III worst defeat in Indian Test History, barring only Dada and Laxman, all failed miserably. Sachin showed some class but in the end threw away his wicket; whereas Rahul was miserably slow and really put down the scoring rate. As Kumble suggested, " he's too good a player to worry about" but if this is the form that Rahul shows in the 2nd Test as well, I have no doubt that he should personally step down and have a bit of time-off frm cricket.

Basically the wicket was a peculiar sub-continent wicket and all credits to the Aussie bowlers to have adapted to such a condition. That is why they are the World Champions, however, I feel that if the Indian batting lineup is schuffled a bit, it can upset the mighty Kangaroos and may well have the ingredient in ending the long 15 straight test wins.

So, here's my winning batting formula. Lets keep our finger crossed and hope fr the best.

Sachin

Sehwag

Sourav

Yuvraj

Laxman

Dhoni

Dravid.....

Kumble

Harbhajan

Zaheer

RP Singh

I completely aggree with u dude, to replace Dravid in the lower middle order, the way he is playing at the moment he will surely frustrate the Aussie bowlers in the company of able lower orders like Kumble, Harbhajan and Zaheer. Better not to leave him because he is as unexpected as the Pakistani and Indian teams, he can burst any moment.

So, lets hope for the best. I am looking forward to a heroic Indian win. A golden gift for the New Year 2008!!!! CHAK DE India!!!!

Happy & Prosperous New Year 2008 to u guys as well.

This batting order may be totally different. But it is my view. Though Dhoni is an aggressive ODI player he is not matured enough for Tests in Australia. Yuvaraj out and Pathan in for extra bowling option.

1. Wasim Jaffer

It is rubbish to suggest sachin opening the innings. Yuvraj should be dropped. He might be a great one day player, But i doubt his skills at test level. He has the tendency of chasing the ball outside the off stump. Hitting a century against feeble pakistan bowler at home will not make him qualify as test player against the lively aussie bowlers. He just dont have the skills for test level.

I am wondering why shewag is always on fire. He has been

consistent at the test level since his debut. one indifferent series against south africa is never gonna take away any thing away from him.

I believe shewag should open the innings with jaffer..my batting order is

Jaffer

Shewag

VVS laxman

sachin

Dravid (since dravid is struggling aginst new ball and breaks momentum)

Ganguly

Dhoni

Well I Personally feel that Sehvag is not a suitable batsman for the test. We definitely need a positive change for our test batting order. The batsman who will be at No.1, 2 & 3 should have great technique & temparment with abilty to play a new ball very confidently. The middle order batsmen should be strongly positive & abilty to handle the pressure. Australias steve Waugh Or Michel Bevan were classic examples of quality middle order batsman.

Also we need a good quality team to win the test matches.

Anyways I think batting order for Indian test team should be as follows:

1. Wasim Jaffer.

2. Sachin Tendulkar.

3. Yuvraj Singh.

4. V.V.S. Laxman.

5.Surav Ganguly.

6. M.S. Dhoni(WK)

7. Irfan Pathan.

8. Anil Kumble (C)

9. Harbhajan Singh

1.Rahul

2.Sehwag (They make a good opening pair ...which is underrated, remember that record 413 run partenership in Pak .... I know these r aussie wickets but these are class players & hv to take the responsibility )

3. VVS (he admitted no. 3 is his fvr8 )

4. Sachin (The opposition is under some pressure if they know Sachin is still to come ...so it also makes an advantage for the first 3 batters)

5. Dada (He is determined to score anywhere anytime after his 2nd coming)

6. Yuvi (Imagine how hard will he come on opponents when the ball is old & the bowlers are tired)

7. Dhoni (same reason as Yuvi's bcz both are India's most attacking batsmen)

& here's a question from me which the cricket observers might want to answer.... https://answersrip.com/question/index?qid=20071220084047AAD7GVN

in my humble opinion rahul dravid is an excellent player and has a very good track record as a one down batsman.it is his traditional position at which he plays.

I also personally feel that irfan pathan is a good all rounder and he should be included at the expense of zaheer to allow anil kumble with an extra batsman and a bowling option as well

This is how they should have a batting line up:

1. Jaffer

2. Ganguly

3. Sachin

4. Dravid

5. Laxman

6. Yuvraj

7. Dhoni

Ganguly and Jaffer are in good form, we need a lefty and righty striker. Laxman always plays good, if he is 4th down, I guess that's his lucky number. Yuvraj and Dhoni are having great partnership in ODI's. We never know that could be a lucky partnership for test. I could be wrong with this, but I have a strong feeling that this should work. And please keep Sehwag out of the team for now, Even Gambhir shouldn't play test cricket after what he performed against Pakistan.

OK my answer to this would be open with Sehwag and Jaffer followed by Laxman at no.3 and Sachin at no.4.

Ganguly shoud come at no.5 and Dravid at no.6

and finally the big hitting wicket kepper Dhoni at no.7

and then our bowlers starting with Irfan Pathan at no.8,Kumble at no.9,Zaheer at no.10 and finally R.P Singh at no.11

this is not justify to put jafer out of playing-11 b'cose he had scored a 200 in last series. and sidny's wicket is not useful for spiniers so my playing 11 is ::::::-----

1. sehwag

2. jafer

3. dravid

4. sachin

5. ganguly

6. yuvraj

7. dhoni

8. pathan

there r 7 batsmen in my team and pathan, kumble is also a good batsmen. so u have 9 batsmen. now u have to make over 500 runs if u bat first. we lost 1st game by our poor bating. and our bowling attack is able to stop the aushies in almost 350-400 runs.

my new selection pathan is most required person in team b'cose he will surely help the team with bat and bowl both.

and in spin dipartment kumble is able to manege with sachin,

yuvi and sehwag.

now u have to make that ur batting is ur key to win.

ok, first of all Indian team needs confidence!!!!

If Team India able to beat Australia in 20/20, it's not impossible in Test match. I would prefer:-

1 Virender Sehwag

2 VVS Laxman

3 Sachin Tendulkar

4 Yuvraj Singh

5 Saurav Ganguli

6 Rahul Dravid

7 MS Dhoni

8 Kumble

9 Harbhajan Singh

10 Irfan Pathan

11 RP Singh

12 Agarkar

Against Australia, if India win toss....must go for bat first...doesn't matter the pitch/weather conditions.....to keep aussies under pressure.

Do play as playing one day.....i'am pretty sure that they'll atleast score more than 250, not like 1st innings at Melbourne all out under 200 runs!!!!
Superstar Udupendra
2007-12-28 05:04:58 UTC
This might be slightly radical, but I think it's worth giving it a try - Given that Irfan Pathan is quite in the classical mould when it comes to batting, and has the capability to go for the big shots too when needed, we should rope him in as an opener, not at the cost of a batsman, but at the cost of bowler - either RP Singh, or Harbhajan Singh (or drop both of these, and get Sreesanth in too).

So, the batting order would look like this -

Wasim Jaffer

Irfan Pathan

Rahul Dravid

Sachin Tendulkar

Saurav Ganguly

Yuvraj Singh

VVS Laxman

MS Dhoni

Anil Kumble

Zaheer Khan

Sreesanth.

Your plan seem like change with weather condition, My Dear Friend , the point is clear you need to have strong opening partner so do we have one professional in- form opener that’s Jaffer asking Sehwaq, Dravid, Sachin 0r Ganguly to open is just on Trail & Error Method. We have already burn our fingers by doing this. It’s not only the opener should perform but also the middle order should bat just shuffling your batsman for one match result is foolishness & asking for trouble, let’s take this straight every captain cannot be Dhoni as all his weird discussion get success!!!!! So let’s play in the same order what we had in First Test Match

If you want to do well in Australia we have to bat well and importantly it's high time we start to have a look at our Run Rate, we have to start scoring at 3.5 minimum. We can't entertain any hopes of being competitive if we are scoring at 1.5 or 2.4. With Dravid in poor form and a poor mindset, he should be made to bat at no.5 with him at the top the momentum is gone and he increases the pressure for the incoming batsmen. My Team & Batting Order for the 2nd test : Sehwag & Ganguly to open, because Ganguly has the experience of opening atleast in one form of the game for so long and more importantly he is in positive frame of mind, he & sehwag forms a good pair, as we have seen them in ODI's and they are left right combination at the top. It's a gamble worth taking. followed by Laxman,Tendulkar,Dravid.Yuvraj,Dhoni,Pathan,Kumble,Harbhajan,Zaheer. we got to take this decision and it has more chances of succeeding. Our intensity levels in fielding and running between the wkts has to improve. There is a huge difference between the fitness levels of Australia and India both physically and mentally. Each batsmen should put a price for his wicket and vow not to throw his wkt as easily as sachin, jaffer, dhoni did today. we got to play the aussie way to dominate them, if we are over cautious aussies will win 4-0. Indians have tasted success before whenever they bat positively but inspite of this it's ridiculous how they adopt such strategies as the one tried out in this test. India would do well only if they bat positively and take on the aussies, if they treat the aussie bowling with such respect in Melbourne, what will they do in Perth ? some tough questions needs to be asked and some tough decisions needed to be taken.

They are performing much more consistently and not only in India but overseas too, not totally dependent on spinners and solid opening partnership, with good captain, better coach, better fast bowlers, lower order, in the company of ' Dhoni has done well, so overall a better package, thus better ranking, just need to perform more consistently, with solid victories overseas, would help India maintain this ranking & keep the doubting kinds under wraps, for long enough, need luck as well-- so all our best wishes are with team India.

drop rahul dravid & jaffer both.let dinesh kartik &sehwag open.bring laxman to one down and sachin, saurav, yuvi, dhoni follow.reason for dropping dravid & jaffer is that they do not dare to score.both are dead, deaf & dumb.sehwag is got the dare.it is better if even he gets out to first ball instead that dravid stays for ten overs without scoring a run.this puts more pressure on team as if some extraordinary bowling is going on.truth is that except lee aussie bowlers are pretty ordinary.hogg is unfit to be included even at club level.problem of indians is in mind.ithink if my mohalla team is given aussie dress & names they will beat indians
2007-12-28 02:43:40 UTC
Let all appreciate you on thinking so much on problem. So many asks what is the problem, as if they can solve the problem. The problem is that problem does not get solved. Kumble recommended Sehwag and BCCI said to Kumble Yes. Kumble is becoming negetive in not taking Sehwag into playing elven because he will try defensive to show world that he was right in recommending Sehwag and in doing so, he will ruin Indian Team. Indian team by their playing has shown that they are happy without foreigner coach. But BCCI wants to keep ICC happy by hiring foreigner caoch and foreigner coach is already playing into the mind of Indian players. You should keep all these things aside and stick to Kumble's plan of recommending Sehwag into playing eleven, while leaving India. So Test Match playing eleven as far as batting is concerned should be

1. Virendra Sehwg and Wasim Jaffer

2. Rahul Dravid

3. Sachin Tendulkar

4. Dada Ganguly

5. Jumbo

6. Mahi

7. Jaheer Khan

Let all dedicate this test series for kumble for doing something for Sehwag. Kumble already ruined Indian batting order in first test match by not taking sehwag into playing eleven.

After test series is over, you are free to for doing plan for next test series.

Well I would like to have the following as our batting order for the next coming test.

We should open with Sehvag and Dravid, one defence and one attack, so even one fails we will still be holding well.

One down will be VVS, then Sachin, Saurav, Yuvi to be followed by MSD, I would also like Pathan and Ishant to be added into the pace attack with Zaheer along with Anil Kumble as spin bowler, By including pathan and Ishant we can attack the Australia better, however Sehvag / Yuvi and Sachin can be used as spin options. This combination will balance our team in all as pacts.

Yes,get Sehwag back in place of Jaffer and ask him to open with Dada..

And i hope Rahul now tries to play freely, without any sort of thing binding him....I wish he plays his normal cricket and does not become overcautious....Good to see that the players are supporting him and it feels great when the captain still has confidence in him....So,i wish him loads of good luck........hope he's able to fight it out.

I wont agree, Sachin opening the innings as his wicket will expose out batting line up. I would rather put Pathan as an opener with Jaffer. Jaffer can be handy as he is tall and play the short balls well. Pathan has the ability to open and the right hand left hand combination as always worked against Bret Lee.

I am from India & I am patriotic as well, but irrespective of what the Batting Order they adopt, Indian batsmen doesn't have the ability to play the Australians. Neither their bowling is good enough to trouble the Australian Batsmen.

Indian Batsmen doens't have the Will Power. They are not dedicated enough. I may sound harsh, but, THIS IS THE TRUTH.

monti, i understand u'r feelings but dont get overbearing on these guys.

my feelings:

* dravid and jaffer both dont seem to attack, therefore get jaffer out bring sehwag in.

* i would not go for the batting order you've specified. i guess we have to play to our strengths.

BATTING ORDER:

sehwag

dravid

laxman

tendulkar

ganguly

yuvraj

dhoni

pathan

kumble

bhajji

zaheer

i know half the world would not support me in bringing pathan, but since our batting has suffered a lot, i propose dropping rp(would be tough on him)

i guess our batsmen should not worry about being overcautious or overagressive. all they have to do is set mini-targets in mind and build towards it.

my opinion is tat te batting lineup for te india team should be changed. My choice in te batting line up is like this ...

jaffer

sehwag

tendulkar

dravid

ganguly

laxman

dhoni

this is my batting lineup. The reason is:

jaffer is a gud batsman n he proved to be worthy for many times n his best combo is sehwag ...coz sehwag has experience in australia b4 except for tat he is out of form but he has proved it wrong in te ranji trophy...so te openin pair wil click if tey both stand for a while...

Next batsman is tendulkar as being experienced n in-form right now he shall prove to be worthy with his tactics

Next is dravid who is defencive n can stand up with his pair if others coupe up with him

Next one is ganguly who is also in-form so he shall be no problem n can get to good score if he gets a good backup tats y i have placed dravid b4 him n laxman after him coz with both these ganguly can do well n vice-versa

Next is laxman who again is well talented n experienced against australia n could do well so no problem with him

the only reason as for now is with dhoni as for now he hasn't proved to be in gr8 form for te past few tests...so shall give him an edge over dinesh karthick in this who is also not in-form right now

for yuvraj who showed gr8 form in te ODI's i don think test matches is his right platform n need to still practice more eventhough he proved gr8 against pakistan with ganguly....he still needs potential....

as far as te bowling is concerned:

kumble

zaheer

ishanth sharma

r.p.singh

kumble as all know is always in-form n need no wording

zaheer has been splendid in te 1st test n has also molded well to the pitch

i.sharma gets a notch above bhaggi coz he proved his potential in te last match against pak n new bowler so more energy n quite good results can b expected from him

r.p.singh as well need no comment except good line n length can prove him to be gr8 in te aussies grounds...

IT SHOULD BE

1 SACHIN

2 GANGULY

3 DRAVID

4 LAXMAN

5 YUVRAJ

6 DHONI

AND THEN COMES THE TAIL!

NO 3 IS DRAVID'S AND LAXMAN'S NATURAL PLACE THEY MUST PLAY FROM THERE TO PUT SOME RESISTANCE IF THERE IS AN EARLY FALL OF WICKET!

It seems it won't matter much to the Aussies (just like absence of McGrath and Warne does not seem to cause much headache to them)!

i want to tell you that first the most experienced batsmens should be getting the line and who is in the form they shoud be given the middle ordr

i think yuvi n sehwag r best choices 4 open.............u can not let sehwag 2 be out from squad...........i think jaffer may sit out.........u may say he had perfomed well......but i think in pitches of australia he will b unsuceesful..........u have seen his perfomance in s.a. tour.............so he have to sit out and sehwag can take his place...............u wud suprize dat i have chossen yuvi for open.........but he has opened for punjab.......and moreever he is in gud knick n left-right combination always been a problem for bowelrs..............so follow my batting pattern and hope india bounces back in series.

hey....

leave the line up as long as the indians especially the so called senior players fear the aussies .....they r never gonna win with any line up!

no wonder aussies lead the world rankings.......

i think ,more than the problem of battting order......its the problem of attitude & mind set with the players.loss of analysis.....instead lots of mind game & planning should be done........captain is capable enough to decide the order.......chak de india........beat aussies with strategy & good game
